Find a Tutor
The Wilsonville Public Library and Clackamas Community College have established a partnership to provide help to those who are seeking assistance with learning English as a second language (ESL). They are actively seeking both students and tutors for the program.
The tutoring is free and provided by volunteers, but is generally offered as a supplement to classes. Students will benefit from taking classes and attending tutoring sessions together.
There is a wide variety of ESL classes at the main Clackamas Community College campus in Oregon City. Classes in Oregon City meet in the morning and cost $20 or $40 per term. All classes are taught by highly-trained, professional instructors with master degrees in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Classes are taught in a fun, active way, and students are encouraged to use their new language skills to interact with classmates. Please call Nena Monterroza at 503-594-3234 for more information about classes.
Become a Tutor
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and countries, including Mexico and other Latin American countries, Russia, and China. Tutors are volunteers from the community who have committed to helping a non-native speaker learn to speak and write English. Tutors will have training through Clackamas Community College and the Portland Literacy Council, and will have access to the ESL collection at the Wilsonville Public Library. They will also have the chance to learn about other cultures, practice foreign languages, and make new friends.
Learners and tutors may use the library’s texts, workbooks, and dictionaries either here or outside the library. For more information about volunteering as a tutor, or to request a tutor, contact Michelle Culley at Clackamas Community College at 503-594-3624, or send her an email.
