history pub 2013-06 - wiki"Ice Age Floods and the Evolution of the Willamette Valley" with Rick Thompson
Tuesday, March 27
6:30-8:00 p.m.
The Old Church at Wilsonville McMenamins

Massive and successive Ice Age floods of water and icebergs loaded with granite boulders roared down the Columbia River Gorge and through the Willamette Valley as far south as Eugene, creating a huge body of water, called Lake Allison. The lake, which attained depths of nearly 400 feet, affected the entire layout of the Northwest.

Rick Thompson, president of the Lower Columbia Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute, will also speak about the 22-mile Ice Age Tonquin Trail, currently in development, which when completed will link Wilsonville, Sherwood and Tualatin, and effectively put hikers and cyclists right in the middle of ice age history. Graham Oaks Nature Park in Wilsonville is one component of the Trail’s Master Plan that has recently opened.
